To compare 2 big Virtualization Management products is not easy. Only an experienced presenter should be chosen. Microsoft is still quite new to the virtualization market, but they're catching up....

Patrik,

Thank you very much for all the valuable information, and the great links by the way!
As per the snapshots, I was just curious about this scheduling part, that’s why I assumed that the Data Protection Manager (DPM) has something to do with that. I’m a big fan by the way for the complete SystemCenter package (VMM included).

rodos, there are no blogs at the first place that I’m aware of here from the ME, I really hope that someday we will have even half the number of the blogs in the Netherlands only, they are giving an excellent example of the professional contents and support for the virtualization community.

Wharlie/Jason, yes he was from a partner I guess, but they have a big name in the region, this is why it was scary and I had to say something, otherwise the wrong information would just keep spreading. VMware has an excellent staff here by the way based in Dubai, I mention for example Deepak Narain, he’s one of the most knowledgeable and impressive presenters I’ve even came to know throughout my entire career. The main issue is that these kind of events are on private invitations only for big enterprises and decision makers, so the influence will be severe and painful if they will just take the information for granted.

The good thing is that one of the VMware staff contacted me within few hours from the post, and I will pass to him all the information in private for the event details and the presentations. It really shows how professional they are, and that they are taking things seriously.

Thanks all

Well done, I'm surprised that a presentation from VMware could contain so much misinformation.
Was the presenter from VMware or from a thhird party vendor?
Congratulations on clearing up the obvious mistakes.

Good for calling these errors out. They really are standard questions that anyone presenting should be able to answer. Where are all the vExperts in the ME? Keep up the good work.

Hi Hany - message heard.

I'd recommend you bookmark a couple sites:
http://www.virtualizationfeed.com/
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/default.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/default.aspx

We do have virtual machine MVPs. All 27 of them are listed here: https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/communities/mvp.aspx?product=1&competency=Virtual%20Machine&page=1

As far as migrating your environment from ESX to Hyper-V, that's your call. I won't debate that here with you but just say maybe try WS08 r2 Hyper-V with your next new server or new app.

As far as VM snapshots with Hyper-V, see the following FAQ: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560637.aspx. It might be useful.

As for SCVMM managing ESX functions, please understand that VMware dictates to us/ISVs to integrate through vCenter in order to manage key functions of ESX. See more here: http://blogs.technet.com/rakeshm/archive/2008/07/28/vmware-and-scvmm-why-do-we-require-virtual-center.aspx

I hope this helps.
